how we wore it

Welcome to the first, 'How We Wore It' post that will feature one particular item, worn two different ways.

{lace dress: H&M}

My sister, Cortnie, writer behind Stylelustpages and I often shop separately so it is funny when we realize that we both have purchased the same item unknowingly.  So many pieces are universal, it is just figuring out how to pull off the look in more than one way.  I hope these posts will spark some inspiration and give you ideas on how to carry items from season-to-season.

mint + leopard

{bandeau: Express pants: American Apparel; blazer: H&M shoes: Steve Madden necklace: Aldo}

I attended the Fashion Industry Networking Party hosted at The Dirty Martini bar in DC last week, my yellow suede Steve Madden's have quickly become my go-to shoe when I want a pop of color.  I love playing with colors and pairing unexpected items together (as I always say) to give my outfit a more fun look without looking overdone.  I have been hunting for the perfect high-waisted trousers for some time and these American Apparel ones fit like a glove and now I must have them in all 10+ colors they come in! I am the type of person that when I find an item that I love, I have to have it in more than one color, these pants are no exception.

Onto some fun news, my sister, blogger of Stylelustpages and I will begin doing outfit posts throughout the month called, 'How We Wore It' which will showcase how we both styled a certain item.  Fun things so stay tuned for the first upcoming post.

in limbo

I am the type of person that loves change, I get bored after awhile sticking to the same ole' thing.  My hair, for instance, I am constantly playing with colors and different cuts.  I stumbled across these photos, taken by my friend a while ago, hence the shorter all black 'do and am now yearning for my shorter hairstyle..yet again! Sigh.  It took about a year to grow my hair back out (to the length it is now, in between cuts here and there) and why must I have this thought in my mind to chop it all off?!  What do you guys think - short or long?

With fall season "officially" beginning this Friday, nothing can remind you more of the change in weather than the turn in color of the leaves and them slowing falling wayside..and lots of layering, of course!

polka dots & stripes

I am a huge enthusiast when it comes to mixing and matching items.  There really are no rules when it comes to fashion, so it is always fun to throw your own flair into your look.  It can be tricky pulling off an "unmatched" look, the key that tied this look together was the stripes and colors.  By sticking with either a similar color palette, fabric or pattern will connect each item with one another to create a consistent and cohesive look.  Then of course, I always like to add a touch of color!

two faced

{dress: H&M vest: Forever 21 shoes: Aldo}

My parents house is right on a lake, makes for a great back drop right? So excited for fall.. fashion..not the weather.  I am not a huge fan of the cooler climates but ready to dive into the layering, boots, darker hues and faux fur!  Love the detailing on the stockings, hence why I say two faced.. depending on the view, you don't know which side you'll get.

multi-color origami

{skirt: Topshop cami: Forever 21 shoes: Aldo}

This outfit goes against my fashion rule of thumb: being too colorful and normally if I am wearing a bottom with a short hem, I like to balance out the top with a longer sleeve or something more covered up.  There goes that! At least this time.  With the shape of this origami skirt, I opted for a more fitting top.  When I wear an item that has a variety of colors, I go for a more subtle or a neutral color to counteract the many hues, but the mint green went perfectly with that skirt! So I went with a nude heel instead. I guess rules are meant to be broken, I suppose.
