wardrobe essentials: the basics pt. I

Building your wardrobe is a process that you are constantly adding to over time.  There are certain items that I feel are of more importance than others (varies depending on the person) that are the ultimate basics and foundation to build upon.

When shopping it is always good to keep in mind..
  • Longevity of item - can it be worn in multiple seasons or just one particular season.
  • Splurge vs. Save pieces - when should you spend more or less.
  • Quality vs Quantity - is stacking up on a variety of inexpensive pieces which may not be the best quality a smart move?
It is very easy to get carried away when shopping but these are all questions and factors that should be considered prior to purchasing, it can save you in the long run! Trends, it's always fun to see the different trends each season, however, "trendy pieces" are not items to splurge on.  If there is a trend for the moment, that is just what it is.. for the moment.  Invest more in pieces that can be carried from season-to-season; rather than, spending a ton of money on seasonal items - in return you may be spending a little more, but they will last longer.  Trendy items are great to purchase from chain retailers because you'll get a good deal.  Splurging, spend a bit more on quality items that you will get the most use out of; for example, jeans, shoes, nice leather handbag, outerwear.  Save, on items that can be easily replaceable (tee's, tanks, accessories).

'The Basics' are items that are very versatile and can easily be added on to or paired with, these 6 pieces  are essential components when building your wardrobe.

1. Black Heel

2. Tailored Black Blazer

3. White Tee's/Tank's

4. Fitted Jeans

5.  Nude Heel

6. LBD

Keyword is 'build,' when you look at these 6 pieces, each item can be paired with one or more of the other basics - which is the purpose of establishing a core foundation with your essentials and being able to build your wardrobe from there.
